She handled media calls, wrote a monthly column for the AAP newspaper, planned press conferences, and wrote and pitched the Washington media on child health issues. Leigh joined Write Ideas, Inc., a Maryland-based PR/marketing firm, as an associate in 1997, where she handled public relations, promotions and special events in the Baltimore and Washington, D.C., markets for two major national retail clients, 7-Eleven and Blockbuster.
In 2000, Leigh joined Susan Carol Associates to offer media placement, public relations and editorial services.
